HOW SASSY CHANGED MY LIFE

My friend Bennett told me that this book is coming out in April. I was interviewed for it extensively two or three years ago. I guess a lot of my quotes made it into the book - especially considering the Dec. 1991 Reader-Produced Issue I was involved in.

But the real reason I'm posting is this: senior year in college, I wanted to do my honors thesis on the effect Sassy had on teen magazines and culture. My advisor said it was too narrow an idea, and somehow talked me into doing a piece about COSMO and Betty Friedan. I dropped the thesis one day before the deadline, because franky, I'd never wanted to do it in the first place.

And thus is the story of why I didn't get an honors degree. But, more importantly, GUESS MY IDEA FOR THE HONORS THESIS WASN'T SO BAD AFTER ALL.

Who's bitter? Not me!

Jen - just watched the Halloween ep of Season 4 and got misty at the end when Bright changed his mind. But now that you said heartbreaking I'm thinking that he changes it back again? Boys are so dumb.

Just keep watching...it gets cuter. And sadder. And cuter.

Stupid advisor!
I actually did do my honors thesis on Sassy, but it was more on the effect that teen magazines and culture had on it, and why it's difficult for great ideas to stay afloat in the mainstream for too long. I hope this book will prompt more people to talk and write about Sassy... it's not too late to write what you want about it. There will always be more to say!
